In the beginning …
There were waxed cylinder players, phonograph players, then came CD, DVD and SACD players, and computer based audio player programs for formats like PCM, Wave, AIFF, MP1, MP2, MP3, and MP4 .
JamBox is an Interactive Audio Player program that plays a new type of audio computer file called a Jamlet. A Kaleidoscopic Jamlet brings the listener an infinite variety of ways to hear improvisational styles of music in a constantly changing way. Kaleidascopic Jamlets take you to the next level beyond the confines of traditional Linear recordings, where you listen to a musical composition from start to finish.
Jamlets
Jamlets are new type of Interactive Audio media file that play
on the JamBox player and can use any of the JamBox's unique
features. Jamlets are smart media files,they contain one or
more audio segments as well as instructions on how and when to play
audio or to display web pages in the built-in Web Browser.
Kaleidascopic
A Kaleidoscopic Jamlet never plays the same way twice. Songs
can be rendered in an endless variety of ways.
Infinite
An Infinite Jamlet will
play forever if you let it.
Interactive
Interactive Jamlets can give you the capability to play along with the music on
the keyboard or screen rather than being a passive listener. Other
types of user interaction with a Jamlet are possible as well, like
alternate verses, choruses or endings, its
all up to the Jamlet's creator.
Multimedia
Multimedia Jamlets can visually entertain you while you are
listening to the audio. The Web Browser is driven by the Jamlet file and
can display web pages or images in synchronization with the music or audio
program.
For example, P-Jam, Atomic Tangerine’s jazz/fusion piece, which comes with the Player, is Kaleidoscopic (constantly changing), as well as Infinite (never ending), Interactive (you can play along with it) and Multimedia (you view the bands web page for the P-Jam).
